TH 9 Single Bomb Usage
Created by: Eric/Edgolfer
Single bombs are often underrated, but if positioned properly they can ruin a raid. Town hall 9s can get the most of their single bombs by placing them outside the walls from where they would expect the attacker to do a cold blooded or shattered attack. Usually this will be on the side of the base that has the easiest route to the defending AQ/DGB, or AQ/AD. A variety of attacks rely on killing the AQ in the first half of the raid in order to succeed later on. Assuming the defending AQ is center of the base, the attacker will usually have to use a set of wallbreakers on the first wall, and then use a jump spell to get deeper into the base to eventually take out the defending AQ.
In order for a single bomb to take out a pair of lvl 5 wallbreakers they need to be lvl 6. If the bomb is flush against the wall the wallbreakers will blow up the wall before the single bomb explodes rendering the bomb useless. So for this reason, the single bomb needs to be offset from the wall by 1 tile. The trash buildings can also be used to funnel the wallbreakers into the bomb since wallbreakers will run in between buildings on their route to the wall. The gif below shows a well-placed bomb killing wallbreakers.

A lot of raids go downhill real quick when wallbreakers die. Troops can't funnel which ultimately makes killing the defending AQ a lot more difficult. Skilled attackers are accustomed to sending their wallbreakers in to avoid splash from WTs and mortars, but single bomb placement is extremely difficult to account for on the first attack. The attacker can do everything perfect and still get screwed by a bomb like shown above. For this reason, single bombs can solely save a base from getting 3-starred on the first attack because the wallbreakers fail.
